The Action + Result Formula: How to Quantify Resume Achievements

ResumeChecker Career Engineering Published 2026-09-05

One of the most common reasons resumes fail candidate screening is a lack of quantified achievements. Resumes filled with generic task descriptions fail to highlight your impact.

The Action + Task + Result Formula

Every high-scoring bullet point should follow this structure:

[Strong Action Verb] + [Specific Task / Project] + [Quantified Business Result (% or $)]

Before & After Examples

❌ Before: 'Worked on backend services and fixed database bugs.' ✅ After: 'Engineered 8 microservices in Node.js and Redis, reducing database latency by 42% and handling 5M daily active users.'

❌ Before: 'Managed ad campaigns for client products.' ✅ After: 'Scaled multi-channel PPC ad campaign budget from $10k to $45k/mo while decreasing customer acquisition cost (CAC) by 22%.'

Metrics Every Role Can Include

• Efficiency: Time saved, percentage improvement in throughput, turnaround reduction. • Revenue/Cost: Revenue generated, budget managed, costs reduced. • Scale: Dataset sizes, team size led, number of active clients or microservices managed.
